Hi all, I have just got my new machine - it has win XP home on it - when I got it home I wanted to install my printer and scanner firstly I tried my old drivers. When I reboot I got a message saying new hardware found. So I uninstalled both.

I downloaded the XP drivers -installed them - by clicking on the setup for the drivers - but everytime I reboot I keep getting a message saying "new hardware found" does anybody have any ideas.

Hi all, I have just got my new machine

Congratulations Mark! What did you get?

I downloaded the XP drivers -installed them - by clicking on the setup for the drivers - but everytime I reboot I keep getting a message saying "new hardware found" does anybody have any ideas.

If you're installing a printer and scanner, you might want to follow through with the "Found New Hardware" wizard. That's the way most hardware is installed.

Also, it will probably go easier if you completly install one thing at a time.

The machine is a Fujitsu P4 2 GiG processor -XP was pre installed though I prompted them for the CD.
80 gig HD
64 meg g-force (not on board)
32 speed writer
DVD 16 X

I have managed to get the scanner installed

I used the "Found New Hardware" wizard. But there never seems to be one file driver to install what I mean by this most CDs come with a setup information were as you have to install via the Setup file.

I.E Double click on setup.exe

I have now got both the scanner and Printer installed.

The only problem now is that XP want to install them when I reboot how do I stop XP doing this?

Hi Mark,

Sounds like a nice rig. :)

It sounds like the hardware installation isn't complete. Have you looked in device manager (regular AND safe mode) to check on their status?

These guys are right, it never completed the add new hardware wizard. Disconnect printer, and remove printers in device manager. Extract the drivers to a simple location like C:\Drivers\Printer. Reboot, and plug in printer, you'll get add new hardware wizard. Select to specify location of files. Point to C:\Drivers\Printer folder. It may have created a folder like XP below it, so browse to that folder and go next, next, next until it's complete and you get a message that hardware installation finished.

That should work. Some of the new printers come with some pretty crappy installation software.

Just a quick question what happens when you click new hardware found? Sounds like XP is just telling you that its found what you have installed. Also with most printers and scanners you have to add the software first then connect the hardware. If I am missing what your asking let us know.

When I click on new hardware it asks for the installation disc (but the only driver I have for the scanner is the old one) then because I don't have the updated driver on CD I ask XP to look in a new folder on the hardrive where I downloaded the new driver but it can't find it. Then I get a message saying XPs going to look on the internet but it dosen't find anything.

Life is too short for you to get crazy from this. Call the printer and scanner companies and yell for help. Don't call MS cause they won't help.

Hi mark - The printers fine now.

I think its XP that is causing me problems not the scanner company - I had no trouble with win 98 and 95 before that.

I am going to drop Microtek an email though
