Hi,

Firstly, what hardware is it detecting?

If you have installed the correct scanner and printer drivers and they work ok, then try going into the device manager and seeing what has the yellow exclamation mark, which is probaly the cause of the new hardware found message.

You could disable this by right clicking on it and choose disable, but it will mean that piece of hardware will not work!!!

Hi Mark,

I'm with slim. Have you checked device manager yet? Right click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager.

Let us know what you find...:)

Also when you installed your Printer did you cancel the windows detect / install ?
Then install the printer and drivers later ?
If Yes you may need to uninstall the printer you put in and let windows add it at boot up.
It’s a pain but it has to be done..

the only exclamation mark I can see is near the network card.

The printer driver is now installed - the scanner is now giving me these New hardware problems I am also getting a message saying unknown device, whats going on?

Hi,

Ok lets get this right, you have got the printer setup ok, but the scanner is giving you grief.

I assume the scanner has a USB connection style, did you install the scanner drivers/software before connecting the actual scanner to your computer. The reason I ask is because I came across a similar problem when settings up a Epson scanner under windows 2000. The proper steps according to most scanner manuals are as follows.

Before following these steps I would remove any previous installs of the scanner drivers or software, disconnect the scanner and reboot before following these steps.

1. Install the scanner drivers/ software.
2. Shutdown the computer.
3. Connect the scanner to the computer.
4. Start the computer and windows will detect the scanner and use the device drivers you have just loaded.

The unknown device message is most likely the network card, did it come with the computer???? if so it should have been already setup. But anyway as you have just got the computer you should have a cd called something like "drivers and ultilities" which will contain all the device drivers for your computer, but normally windows XP does deal with standard network cards ok.

Let us know how you get on.
