I have seen a highly rated and fast TDK CDRW offered for sale at about $50 after rebates at several places lately. There are so many good deals on CDRWs that I would check local store ads to see what they have. I think that TDK is on sale at one of the big chain stores this week, but I am not sure which one. It may be Office Depot or CompUSA, but I am not sure. I have picked up 2 different CDRWs in the last few weeks for about $20 after rebate, so I figure even if one of them doesn't make it for long, I still got a good deal. They are Verbatim and I/O Magic. I also picked up a slightly slower Samsung for $30 after rebate.

HERE'S (http://www.compgeeks.com/products.asp?cat=CDW) some to look at.
I have a couple of the Artec 48x12x48. They work real good and I'm even getting used to NERO! And I paid more than the $54 they're asking.

These guys are great to deal with. I've had no problems with anything I've got from them and they're rated extremely well by Reseller Ratings.com (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1205.html)

I have never heard of Cyberdrive, so it would be an unknown quantity for me and I would rather buy a really cheap drive if I don't know anything about it. Mitsumi makes good floppy drives, but I haven't ever heard of their CDRWs. I understand you don't want to deal with rebates, but some of the best drives for the best prices are available with rebates if you can get your parents to front you the bucks. Best Buy has a 48x16x48 for $45 after rebates, CompUSA has that TKD 48x16x48 for $50 after rebates, and Circuit City has a Cendyne 48x12x48 for $40 after rebates. Cendyne was recently rated as the top drive by PCWorld. If you can't do the rebate thing, I would probably keep looking unless you know something about the quality of the drives you were looking at from Newegg. The good thing if you do decide to go with Newegg is that they do stand behind their sales.

I am presently using a Cyberdrive that was given to me new in exchange for some work done on a friend's boat. It has worked well for the 6 or so months I've had it. No comnplaints here. It's a 16/12/40 . Burns at full speed ahead 'Capstan'!
