in the bios if com 1 com2 is off would that effect the cdrom drive?Thanks

Shouldn't....CDROMs are usually on the IDE Channels.

You might want to try it in another computer before giving up! ;)

Check the connections to make sure they're snug. If you've another IDE cable you might want to try that.

Does the light on the front come on during POST?
