I'm not sure but it seems that there are some pop-up windows that I can't delete using the X in the upper right hand window. The only thing I can do is use ctrl/alt-del to get rid of it. Is this possible that some pop-up's have this capability ???.

Yes it is. There are some really nasty pop-ups that sit in the center of the picture and fade away slowly. Generally they don't close easily. There are some sites that post pop-ups that open another when you close the one at hand. If they can find a way to keep it on your screen, they will. Usually the easiest way to close them is to right click on the icon on the tool bar and select close. This way you don't have to click on the actual pop-up and that can avoid having to deal with one kind that has a fake "x" to close it. Also, I would urge you to check the security settings in your browswer. Several browsers now offer the option to prevent pop-ups. You can download and install free pop-up stoppers if your browser won't do this.
Nasty little buggers aren't they....:p

There are also popups that are defined as borderless, without any controls or scrollbars, with content being a gif of a normal window.....so that would make the x totally useless, because it is just a part of a picture with no control function at all. Often these type of popups are used by drive by installers that install all sorts of malware behind your back.
I would advise grabbing Spytbot S&D (AV link in my sig) and giving it a spin. After downloading and installing it, hit the update button before doing a scan. Also don't worry about anything that isn't red.
A nice feature of windows is the keyboard shortcuts...and you can kill the active window by using the alt + f4 key combo.
