Help please

Hi
My brother has a packard bell and it was working fine till the other day.
What happened was when he turns it on the scree will come up for a sec and then go blank, the keyboard does not light up either and he can not do anything wit it. Could some one help me help him i just dont know what to do for him. I dont know what kind of motherboard he has but he has a 166 prosesser if that helps.

Any beeps (visible error codes are not an option here)?

Any indications of how far along in the boot process it does get?

Has anything been done to it lately (memory added, drive changed, etc)?

What was he doing that last time it was working properly...did he shut down properly, was there a crash...?
