SONY PS2 repair?

I have a sony PS2 that will read CD games but fails to read DVD games
I have cleaned it and even opened and dusted it (air can)

anyone fixed a PS2?

if it's less than a year old call sony and have them send a new console?

not really much to them to fix?either clean the lens or it's compadibilty issues there are also known heat issues? Have you moved it while it was on(running)?

It was reading DVD sports games but stopped
now reads cd
may have been dropped (son is vague on what happened)

so it does not get disk read error for 4-5 min when starting

sorry to hear it may have been droped but PS2's do have a known problem for readig DVD's and then not reading them and just reading CD as i mentioned i would call sony and "do not tell them it's been dropped" and tell them it won't read DVD's they have been pretty quick about replacements seems the problem is well known

I would suspect either a bad ribbon cable or bad laser ??? I personally have never tried to repair one,but don't think that it can really be repaired it either works or don't.
Kind of like newer TV's there is really no sence in trying to repair one most places just slide in a new chasis it's cheaper.
