Here I am again for help.
I have a new Maxtor 60 GB HD. Not formated yet. Thinking of buying mobo and P4 CPU and assemble a PC(In near future). My question is Win ME better to install or Win 2000. I heard Win 2000 lot stable os. Normally I start installing Win 98 after formating HD then upgrade to Win ME or Win 2000 (Presently all my HDs are with Win ME, couple times I tried Win 2000 some how I am not lucky to continue using them) I would like to change all my HDs with Win 2000 if every thing is ok. If you recommend Win 2000, should I format HD at 16 bit/NTFS or do it normaly at 32 bit install Win 98 and upgrate to Win 2000 and let Win 2000 CD take care of it?? Thanks.

never thought that it would be a Toss up between MEeeeee and 2000
Go W/2000 and do a fresh install not an upgrade

Thanks Yoda74 for your quick response. The reason why I was afraid of because I never used Win 2000 as my os, and also not familier with NTFS to say how it will effect me. Presently using Win ME. You are the MAN, I will follow your instructions to install win 2000 not as an upgrade. The problem is I don't have a disk just like win 98 start up disk. That is why after I format HD it normally ask for win9x disk to insert to continue formating. I will try with it but instead of using win 98 CD, I will use win 2000, will it work???
Is there any other method where I can create a start up/boot disk for win 2000 which I could use during formating HD instead of win9x start up/boot disk? Thanks once again.

I believe you can boot directly into the Win2K CD and format/partition from there. I just recently installed it, but I also installed XP and I am getting confused about which does what. I installed with Fat32 so that I can set up multi-boot with access between systems. I eventually hope to have Win2K, WinME and Linux on one system. If you are comfortable with WinME, you might want to think about dual boot for a while at least. Win2K is much, MUCH more stable that WinME.

If you browse the w2k disk you will see a folder "bootdisk". This folder allows you to create a series of 4 floppies that you can use to install w2k. You will be able to partition and format as you go.

Thanks Budfred and Steve for help. Guess what I will be doing tonight: will create bootdisks and use win2k cd to install. Remember me in your prayers, I will be back.

Hi Mohamed,
I run W2K and it is by far the best! I've been to help three friends now with their computers, they were just having all kinds of troubles!! They were all running that awful ME. If you have the option to run W2K then do it. You will be so much happier with a computer that doesn't go squirrely on you every day or need to be rebooted three times a day. I'm still learning W2K but so far in the year I've been running it I've had no problems at all with it. The only draw back is if you are really a big gamer. There are not a whole lot of games that run on W2K but that is changing with XP out now. XP is just a bells and whistles version of 2000. I'm finding that most games that say they will run on XP will also run on 2000. Didn't mean to go on and on here but I'm really happy with 2000. Follow the wonderful advice from the gurus here and they will have you up and running in no time.
Hope everything goes smooth for you, take care LG;)

Hello LadyGrey
Nice to know good things about win2k. Like I said, last night I did followed what our gurus suggested and guess what, it worked and went on the internet also to verify that modem works. Hope this time my kids don't complain about crashing the sys. Thanks again and will be in touch.:)
