Ok, sometimes when I'm surfing the net I come to a site that causes my system to lock up…..and I mean it locks up hard, I can't even reboot with the three finger salute…..I have to shut it off by the power button. Is it my system that causes this? or is it the website I'm at? It usually happens at the same sites so I know it has to with not having what I need to view it, or something that was caused by the webmaster.
I'm running Windows 98 (first edition) the latest version on IE with the updated service paks

I've seen this happening if IE can't load flash or shockwave feature. Can you load pages which requires
flash plugin ?

Yes I can load sites that have Flash and other Multimedia stuff, but that was a good thought http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif It's just a few sites that cause this but usaully the same ones that don't have that stuff. Any other ideas ?
thanks
Jenn...
You can try running BrowserTune (http://www.browsertune.com/bt2kfast/default.htm), that should tell you if you've got a Java or other scripting problem.

Hi again, That was also a great thought mjc, but that's one of the sites that locks up my computer everytime I go to it. I'm begining to wonder if it's virtual machine. What do you think? I haven't downloaded it but I quess I could try.
Thanks for all of your help,

My guess if BrowserTune locks up the it is a scripting problem of some sort and the virtual machine update may take care of it. What version are you running?

Jennifer,
I was having the exact same problem, including the same web site (browser tune). I upgraded my internet explorer and the problem continued. I finally figured out that my Mcafee active shield anti-virus software was causing this problem. If I disabled the software before browsing the web, it works fine, including browser tune. Not sure if this is your problem as well???
