I have a Intel P3 500 and unfortunately im still using a dial up http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
I have 3 differant isp's on 3 differant backbones with 3 differant
sets of dns #. So ive ruled out the isp/dns.

Here is what happens. When im doing something, downloading or playing
my favorite online rpg, my CPU is always at 100% usage. So when I am
playing my game (Asheron's Call) i will get a good 45 seconds of no
data passing. If i hope out and look at the windows system monitor
it say a solid 100% CPU use with nothing but the game open. Also one
day i did a ping of www.zone.com (http://www.zone.com) and a couple other domains, and the
results were good, then request time out, then (and Ive never seen this)
"no resources". In the game I could be running then just lag out, usually
end up dying too http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

What I have done:

1. Bought new modem. Modemblaster external 56k V90
2. Replaced 1 32, 1 96 memory w/ 2 of the same kind of 128
3. Bought new power supply, and new surge protector
4. Heat sink fan check out fine.
5. Tested on 3 differant isps w/differant dns #'s
6. Changed game port on AC settings

Please help if you can. Has anyone ever seen "no resources"
on a ping? what could that possibly mean? With a P3 500
and 256 meg memory, shouldn't I be able to run 1 game w/o
all these problems? Btw, my roomie with an amd, using same isps
same phone lines, has 0 problems

Please Write Back. :/

Well, the first thing is what are your resources when you first boot up, systems properties, performance.

If you have a large number of things running in the background they will consume resources...the amount of memory doesn't really matter the resources in question are holdovers from DOS and Win3.1 days, and are reserved 64KB memory areas...

Also things like network configuration, unneeded network protocols, DUN configuration, all have an impact on your connection. Try here (http://www.pcguide.com/opt/index.htm) for some optimization tips.

those that are reading this question & learning rather than answering ,
they may get something out of these extra sites . John .
