I have a refurbished computer that physically has a CD-ROM built in, but when I go to Windows Explorer (Windows 95), nothing is there... no drive letter, nothing. It's not even in the device manager. I tried installing a generic driver, but that did nothing.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Do you have Win 95 a or b? Has the drive ever worked at all?

If not, you should open up the case to make sure that the power and
data cables are connected properly, and that the jumper is set correctly.

i would take of the computer case and make sure all data and power cables are properly seated on the cd-rom, also check and see that the master/slave jumpers are ok.

If you are unsure if it is connected properly or if the leads are ok you could set your Primary and Secondary Master and Slaves to auto in the bios so if the CDROM is connected you will set it while booting up, (or auto detect them in the BIOS).

It wont cure your problem but will move you in the right direction for finding the problem, then post your results here.
