Hard Disks Brands

Im planning of purchasing a new hard drive. Which brand do you people recommend. Seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital.........

Samsung and Seagate are reliable...'Cos I've been using them for years. Other suggestions will follow... Hope they do not confuse u..:D Everyone has their own suggestions and select ur choice from the majority count :cool: .

One consideration you might want to take into account is warranty. In a not to distant past thread someone brought to our attention that fact that most manufacturers were changing from 3 year warranties to only 1 year.

I think mention was made to Western Digital Caviar drives as maintaining a 3 year warranty.

During this past year I have had to change out 4 Maxtor 7200 drives. 2 of the refurbs didn't last but a few months. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and data backed up with the warranty replacements in the units now!

Right now I have a couple of Western Digital, a Maxtor, an IBM, and a Samsung. So far they all seem to be about the same quality. I like the particular Maxtor I have because it is low profile and that should allow it more room to cool. I just sent the IBM in on an RMA, but I got it from someone bad already. They have been pretty helpful with the RMA. I have a Western Digital 6 gig that I got as the extra hardware with OEM software and it turned out it worked when I tried and tested it. That leads me to feel good about them, but it really was just luck. So.... what I am saying is that any of the major brands are probably ok. I would probably want to go with the WD Caviar if I were buying one today because the the 3 year warranty thing.
