In my motherboard manual, it makes mention to "short" jumpers 1 and 2. Does that mean to put the jumper over pins 1 and 2 or leave pins 1 and 2 unconnected? It also makes mention of "open" pins. Im assuming that open would mean to NOT cover the two pins with the jumper and short would mean to cover the two pins with the jumper? Am I correct?

Also, i want to install a new motherboard into an old Gateway case but I have a problem. Those little wires in the case that control the power switch and LEDs and stuff are not seperate little wires. They are all bunched together into one 10-pin block. The motherboard jumpers for those particular wires arent set up in the right order to use that 10-pin block. Anyway I can use this case with the new motherboard or did Gateway screw me over again with their dumb custom setups?

When you place a jumper on two pins it connects (shorts) those pins. "Open" means not connected by jumper.

Not sure where but I know you can buy new connectors. Then it is a simple matter to cut off the old connector and place two pin connectors on the correct wires. I know someone in this forum has done that and they'll be in touch soon.

Or maybe you could cut the wires and reconnect them in the correct order to use the ten pin connector.

Edit: I'm sure Radio Shack has the proper connectors.

I had the same problem with an old HP. I just took a utility knife and carefully sliced the connector apart. It is still working fine 2 years later.

Shorting is to bring the two pins into contact and opening is to leave them unconnected.

Regarding the power pin connections, you have to manually connect the cables, to get it working.

You can also buy a decent new case for about $30 and not have to deal with all that proprietary garbage.
