I am Installing Office 97pro in my PC, Win98se OS. In the early stage of the process I am getting error message that says could not read E:\ .dll files. (E is my CD rom drive I tried to use my HP Writer w/c is the F drive but still the same error message I'm getting. Almost all of the application extension file could not be read. I am given an option of either to Cancel or Ignore. I tried to choose ignore but in the end I have to cancel coz it hangs up. Pls. help me http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif :

is this an original office disk? or a copy?

you can try to open the cd, copy all the files and paste them to a temp directory on your harddrive, then install from there. if it's a copy, it may be a corrupted version.

The same CD was used prior to formatting my harddrive & it was installed w/out any problem. Anyway I'll try your idea once I gets home.

I've had similar problems with old(er) CDs and CD drives. The problems is a combination of damaged and/or dirty CDs and damaged and/or dirty CD drives. The best solution I have found is a Spanking New CD-ROM drive.

Good Luck -
