With my ASUS A7V333 board I have the choice of putting in pc2100 (266mhz) or pc2700 (333mhz). Im using a Athlonxp 2000+.
Im a little confused as to what multipler to set, with FSB. Do i set the fsb different if using pc2700 as opposed to pc2100?
sorry for such a basic question this is my first real build with this spec and dont wont to fu.k it up?
thanks

In the bios, you will have diferent bus settings to adjust.
There will be a setiing that reads cpu bus, or similar, which should be set at 133mhz...
Then there is the setting that will probably be labeled as memory bus. Now this is where the different memory types come into play.
If you buy pc2100, then the memory bus should be set at 133 also, which is 266 ddr, which corresponds to pc2100.
But since your mobo can run the memory asynchronously from the cpu bus, if you buy pc2700, then you can set this to 166 (333 ddr) and you will get better memory bandwidth.
The actual "real-world" performance difference between the two is likely negligible, but since the price difference between pc2100 and pc2700 is small, you may want to go with pc2700.
But whatever you decide as far as memory, the correct multiplier for your chip is 12.5. 12.5 x 133 = 1666mhz, the correct speed for an AXP 2000+
The multiplier will be set automatically for you, since it is locked at the factory. The only setting you have to change for that is the fsb/cpu bus (it can be labeled either way in the bios) and that should be 133...

thanks mate for the advice, i thought that was the case, but because I haven't been into the bios yet as still waiting for ram, i just wasn't certain...thanks again!
