well before anyone helps overclocking there is always one question to ask or two or three:D

#1. you know nothing about overclocking?
#2. Why do you want to overclock your pc?
#3. You need to do a whole lot of research before you even try?
#4. if this is just for bragging rights to say you have an overclocked pc you need to find an overclocking site. were here to help repair and trouble shoot problems not creat them.

now whith all that behind what exatly is it your wanting to do?
becouse the performance from overclocking isn't going to make a whole lot of difference. Unless your a constant tweeker which apparently your not?? but we will help if you give us an idea of what it is that you need to do..

Try SysOpt (http://www.sysopt.com/ocdatabase.html). They have information links and a database to show success rates for various hardware combinations. Searching for overclocking with Google (http://www.google.com) will return a lot of sites with information that may be helpful for you.

You may want to read this thread (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15933) when the topic came up before.

Hi pvaras,

I guess instead of giving you info, the folks here would like to steer you toward more information. I don't think you disturbed anyone. It's just that overclocking isn't "recommended" here.

That being said, I'd check some (if not all) of the links provided. Get some background before you jump in. From what I understand, most CPU's will function within a smaller/larger range. We overclock just to see what the hardware is actually capable of. Some processors will run at much higher speeds than they are listed.

That being said, it can be risky business. You could damage hundreds of dollars of hardware if you over do it. BUT...if you're willing to chance it, it's fun and informational.

And after all, this forum is for discussion of "responsible overclocking". :)

PS. I just wish I new anything about overclocking an AMD processor!

I do know some basics, but certainly not enough to provide a comprehensive guide. There is a wealth of information out there. I think it is quite appropriate to steer someone in the right direction.

Nothing wrong with steering a guy or gal in the right direction.

Having recieved guidance in this forum, I just thought I'd help to explain. ;)

I've never overclocked, but it is very informative to read about. I use Arctic Silver compound and a fan/heatsink combo that I decided to purchase by reading about what the overclockers use. We can learn things from the "radicals" you know. It'd be nice to have the money to burn on experimenting with hardware...but I just want my hardware to last longer... so, I listen to what the radicals have to say, e.g., HOT = BAD...COOL = GOOD and MOISTURE = BAD...DRYNESS = GOOD. Besides it saves on my electric bill because I don't have to run my air conditioner as hard because the six case fans I have blow a nice breeze across my legs when I'm at my desk!

As CPUs get faster a lot of what has been learned from the overclocking community is now applicable to normal builds. Especially in the area of cooling.

Pvaras, I just saw this and I want to pass on what was for me, the best explanation of the whole oc thing:

As for the posters who are trying to discourage you from trying something new, what gives? I'm sure you experts weren't born with this knowledge. I'm sure you started from exactly where this individual is, at zero. So let him go for it. As a long as he is willing to educate himself and be aware of and accept the risks, why shouldn't he get in on the fun? I, myself hadn't heard of the word until a 3 months ago, but I have found out enough about it to try it, knowing that I will fry a thing or two on the way to becoming an expert, just as all you experts did. You can't play with fire without getting burned once in a while! Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now. Thanks for reading.
