Hi folks, just a quick question,
When I try to change screen resolution (Mandrake Control Center > Hardware > Resolution ) I get a pop up window saying "The modifications done in this module will not be saved" I have a choice of "OK" or "cancel". Either way the results are the same. I can't ajust screen resolution.
Any suggestions?
Are you logged on as Root when you adjusted this ?
Are you running a desktop in Xserver?
Are you making the adjustment in Xconfig ?

Hi Rick
Are you logged on as Root when you adjusted this ?
I think maybe yes/maybe no. When I start up, it just starts. I don't have to logon or anything. I'm the only one on the computer. I can do everything so far except make changes in the "Mandrake Control Center".
When I access the control center, I get this notice...
"The action you requested needs root privileges. Please enter root's password below or click Ignore to continue with your current privileges".
I enter the password, gain access to the control center, and I'm able to make any changes I want. When I go to exit control center, I get the message...
"The modifications done in this module wont be saved".
I have a choice of OK or cancel. Either way the changes aren't saved.
I am brand new to linux/mandrake so I presume it's just my inexperience showing itself.
Any suggestions?
PS. I'm not sure what xserver and xconfig are.

Ok, I am not familiar with Mandrake, so pardon my suggestion if it is off the wall. The message you are getting suggests that there is a way to save the changes and that you need to do that before exiting. Have you checked all the menu options and options with a right click?

Budfred,
No. It's not off the wall at all. I thought the same thing myself. But there is no "save" or "apply" button.
There is no scroll bar on the screen, so I think I'm seeing the full page. I make the changes, go to exit the screen and that's when I get the message.

OK. I appreciate Rick and Budfreds response but frankly I got nowhere with my problem. I've posted on several forums, all dedicated to Linux and I've recieved several suggestions (some way over my head) and nothing solved the problem. I tried reinstalling, nope, same thing. So I tried a different monitor. Bingo. No problem. :) Even though my first monitor was listed as hardware compatible I guess it wasn't. I can now make changes in the control center and they take. I'm not sure what was going on, but I guess I'll just shrug and go on.
In my searching I came across some good sites. I figured I'd pass on the info for any of those who might want some info on Mandrake.
