dvd picture quality

I have the chance to get a good deal on a notebook with a DVD drive.I need a portable dvd player and could use (but don't NEED) the notebook.Does the larger screen of a notebook make up for the high resolution of a portable DVD player?

the viewable angle of a laptop screen makes it hard to see Unless you have a very high end screen.

The Laptop with the TV / Svideo connection is usable but not much better
A Large price tag for a DVD player
