hey my sisters computer went down a few days ago
it was not getting into windows for the most part
it would just keep on restarting. every once in a wile
it would let her in but it would close programs and not let
her install programs and sometimes just restart
i formatted the hard drive and rand scandisk and now i am trying to
install windows xp. i get through the floppy disk stage of installing xp but when it copys files from the cdrom to the hd i get alot of error messages telling me that files can not be coppied
i am sure that the problem is not the cd or the cd rom drive because i used them to install on another old computer in the house and it worked fine
anyone have any ideas
thanks in advance

I am not sure I'm following you here why are you using a floppy??
XP will load from the CD there is no need to use FDISK when installing XP, as the partitioning and formatting can be handled during the installation.

you do need to make sure that your CD is set to first boot

Insert your XP CD in the drive. It should automatically launch the Setup routine. If it doesn’t, click Start -> Run, type d:\setup.exe (where d: is the letter of your CD drive) in the Open box and click OK.

You’ll be presented with a menu of choices. Click Install Windows
The first setup screen asks you what type of installation to perform. Select New Installation (Advanced) from the drop-down list and click the Next button to move to the next screen.
Read through the licence agreement and, if you accept it, click I Accept This Agreement, then click Next.YOU HAVE NO CHOICE HERE

Type in your Windows Product Key, which you’ll find on the CD cover, then click Next.
you should be able to just follow the Instructions from there it's pretty much auto...

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

You may also want to download and run diagnostic utilities from the maker of the hard drive to make sure it isn't a problem with the hard drive in the first place.

Also, it sounds like you have this copy of XP installed on another computer. Keep in mind that you will be able to install it, but you won't be able to use it after 30 days because of the activation requirement.
