Anyone know of any AT boards or baby AT boards still in production?
I'd like know if anyone has a suggestion or favorite board I can use with a standard AT case and power supply. Anyone ever see an AT board with ATA 100 controllers and USB or firewire ports?

ATX cases are pretty cheap, if I was you I wouldn't try to take a step back by trying to find an old mobo. it may end up costing you just as much as a new mobo and case anyway.

Yeah, you're right, dumb idea...about save the case,, but what I did want to know is where the last of "highest-performance" ATs stop.
What was "crowned" the best AT board ever, or AT/ATX?

Can't help you there, I never worked with much besides atx boards.

The "best" AT board I ever saw was a PC-Chips that supported AMD K6-2/3 cpus. It had multipliers up to 6x, ATA66, 4 USB 1.1 ports, 3 DIMM slots w/support for 768mb ram, AGP slot, 5 PCI slots, onboard sound with SPDIF...

That does sound like a pretty kick ass AT board.

Why fixit if... (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2085546567&category=4615)
If you can read these, No, They did not sell for $0.99 cents.
If you put a new mobo 'ina' AT case you're only askin' fer sumpthin' else to wear out later.
Like I don't do such a thing...

I would tend to agree with that. I started out in 2001 with my K7VZA in a converted AT case, and the standoffs never did look to be quite the right size, so I went to get a new ATX case as soon as I could afford one. (Actually, I'm on a brand-new case right now; the previous case had some of its expansion-slot screw holes strip out because I was moving cards in and out so often.)

my favorite was the:
SOYO 5EHM Super Socket7 baby AT
takes either ATX or AT power
usb & ps2
100 fsb
Problem is the technology is dated.

CPU's supported
http://www.soyousa.com/kb/kbdesc.php?id=77
pentium P54C to 200MHz
pentium P55C MMX to 233MHz
amd k6 to 300MHz
k6-2 to 500MHz
k6-III to 450MHz
I sold my Abit KT7 w/ Athy 1.2 & saving for a new rig. Meanwhile using a ECS K7SEM, Duron600 & 128mb pc133; worth about $75 but better than any socket7 rig you can build.
p.s. I think I can find a Tyan w/ K6-2 450 if your interested

Getting out after you've jumped in??? :D :D :D HELP?!?
Cripes you're finding better stuff than some people use (or use for spare in my case).
I can picture it now... the only one around that shows up at a dumpster with the shopping cart empty... and then having a hard time getting it back up the hill...
(Sorry you set yuourself up for that one) ;)

Hi there everyone!
This is an interesting discussion for me, as I use AT and baby-AT boards ALL THE TIME...
What I mean by this, is I use them as the basis for a cheap upgrade or building a cheap Internet capable machine for people who do not have hundreds and hundreds to spend on a modern m/board and CPU.
Here in New Zealand, you can get a 2nd hand m/board and CPU(from P100 up) for anything as low as NZ$25 (approx. US$12.50).
You do not need the latest high-performance machine with all the super-fast specs just to access the 'Net via a dial-up phone modem, and send and receive e-mail.
Interestingly, the likes of a P166 with 64MB of RAM with a 1GB HDD on an AT or baby-AT Socket-7 m/board has been known to run better then several other machines here...
I was called out last night to look at a mate's machine, which was a Duron 1000MHz machine, with 176MB of RAM, and a 20GB drive, and it is way slower then my machine, which is a P166 with 64MB of RAM.
This should _NOT_ be, as this machine of theirs should go like a rocket, compared to mine, but is is much MUCH slower...
(set it doing a safe-mode defrag and left it overnight, but if it is still being a pain when I check later today, I think I will seek to flatten it, and reinstall the OS from their Win98 dist. CD...)
Anyway, this is getting off track slightly...
AT class boards are not really that good for anything over 200MHz CPU speed, so they are not any good for modern graphics intensive tasks like fancy games, video editing, etc...
For this kind of stuff, you really do need to go to a high-performance ATX board...
But the AT class boards are still very useful machines, and make EXCELLENT basis for a dedicated MP3 player, paired with the biggest HDD you can afford/find...(within reason...)
Appologies for the length of this post - got a little carried away!!!!
:)
