Hi I'm new to this so here it goes. I have a Pentium 2 processor (400 mhz), voodoo 5 card, 64mb ram. When i bootup the computer sometimes it gets all the way to the desktop and a window comes up saying something about having to restart. So I click on restart and it restarts and comes up w/ a screen saying that its missing a system ini file and it will recover it. Then it will be fine until I have to shut down my computer, then when I start it up, I have to do the whole thing over again.
Any Suggestions¿?

What .ini file does it need to replace, does it say? Also what alterations have you done to the system - what software have you added, or hardware or changed any settings.
Could be one of many things: file corruption, virus.... hmmmmmmmm

What flavor of windows.
Does it say "a system ini or "system.ini"
If it says system.ini it is a configuration file in c:\windows that is missing or corrupt I am not sure how you would fix it but on my machine I would run mcafee first aid and it would fix it

Depends on the file however...Use a strtup disk to get to a DOS promt then at the "A:" type "SYS C:" (text only) this will copy the system files from your startup disk to your HDD, instead of Windows putting a temp fix for you each time you restart.

If it is Win98 then you probably have a REGISTRY problem....one way I correct this problem is to put a Win98 startup disk in - choosing "CD rom support" and then I start reloading Win 98 by typing "Setup" at the CD rom prompt [usually E].....then Win 98 will do its "System checking" routine and discover the Registry is corrupt.....and it will permanently fix it....then it will reboot.....that is where I stop the reinstall......I pull the Win98 CD out and reboot.......walllaaa.......it is fixed http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
