I have a brand new system consisting of a Gigabyte 8IHXP motherboard and 512 MB of RDRAM memory. Since the first time I booted it up, I have experienced beeps as follows: two quick beeps followed by eight more. I initially thought this was an error with the video memory (video card is a Radeon 9700), but changing out video cards did nothing to alleviate this problem. When this happens, the system won't boot at all, but if I let it run for about 20 seconds and then turn it off and then on again, no problem--it works flawlessly. I can't seem to find what 2+8 beeps mean. Please help. Having to restart the system everytime is getting old. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif
If you can figure out what BIOS your motherboard is using, those beeps are a code that will tell you what is wrong. You can usually find out the BIOS type by looking at the BIOS chip or going into BIOS Setup at boot and see what it says. You can look for more info about the codes here:

It's probably AMI BIOS as Award prefers to use screen messages...unless the video doesn't come up and then it will beep continuously...
The two beeps, then, would indicate a parity error...which would indicate a problem with your RAM...are you sure it's seated properly?
