I already have went to the windows troubleshooting web-site and fallowed almost all the directions to fix the possible causes of this shut down problem.

I'm pretty sure all the PCI cards and the AGP graphic card is not causing this problem(I even took out each PCI card out of my computer to find the problem). The only thing I would suspect is I recently hooked up the cable modem to my PC and on the same day when 'WIN ME' would NOT shutdown. Maybe a coincidence ?(maybe the cable modem?)

I don't know what's going on,but it does not seem there is anything wrong with my 'ether net card' connected to my cable modem(I tested it by taking the slot out).
Is it possible that my motherboard or my 300Watt power suply is casuing this? OR is it the 'dial-up adapter'.
ANYONE have an idea?

PS- I've already looked at the previous topic about 'WIN ME'. But no clue...

You say you've been to the troubleshooting site? Have you checked out this one? (http://www.aumha.org/a/shtdwnmez.htm) With the cable modem addition I would check for the latest NIC drivers and make sure your network settings (Control Panel/Netork) are correct. I just got cable yesterday and they had the settings on the side of the modem for me.

Edit: If that doesn't work search Google (http://www.google.com) with this phrase "Windows ME shutdown problem network card" (without the quotation marks). Several hits http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif Good Luck

Think of it as a "FEATURE" and pretty soon we'll all be wishing our PCs didn't power down...

I know there's a KB entry relating to this for Win9x and shared drives but can't remember where it is. Didn't work for me anyway, I reformatted and it went away.

Possible other causes are hd drivers (particularly VIA and busmastering) or latency from your netcard causing the system to hang on shutdown. New mobo and/or ethernet drivers would fix those things.

Putting the "Personally, mate, I'd chuck it out and get myself a new one.." into "PC".

not bob: My uncle and my son both have NEW puters with ME. Both have intermittent shutdown problems. Neither need new parts. My uncle says his ME hangs with lovely, golden Venetian blinds on the screen.

hirosakuraba: I am hoping you will post back if you find the solution to your problem because my son just also installed a cable modem.
