I just bought a Soyo I815EP motherboard to use in a system for testing stuff mainly. But the computer is doing a strange thing. I built the system, loaded Win98, and somethimes when I turn on the computer, nothing comes on the monitor. I've taken everything off , re-attached, even re-loaded Windows, but still have the problem. It only happens every once in a while, but very frequently. When it happens, the computer will start booting, although nothing shows on the monitor, then shut down after a few seconds. I'll turn it back on and it might do the same thing...maybe a couple of times, then for some reason it will work. I thought it might be the video driver, which is a 8mb Savage IX, so the last time I didn't actually load the driver. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

I am guessing that it is the video card. I would try reseating it, especially if it is AGP (they can be tricky to get seated properly). I would also check to make sure the cable is tightly connected. Maybe try a different video card if you have one handy.

Budfred you hit it. I tried a different one a little while ago and it seems to be ok now. Thanks.
