I have had to cut IDE cable wire #1 <reset IDE> to get an Intel P120/AdvancedEV mainboard to recognize an atapi cd rom. Now the Cdrom is working fine, but I get errors in Explorer (running-W98) and some Norton programs are giving the "illegal operation" notice and terminating. I have the Cdrom as Secondary slave-when I had it as primary slave--Norton Optimization wizard would not run, nor could I reinstall Norton Utilities.
Are ther other ramifications as a result of disabling the "reset IDE" function? Thanks!

Interesting. I threw away an Ultra 66 cable after the insulation was accidently scraped off at wire 1. When I saw it carried the "Reset" signal, I said "whoa, I don't want any flakiness here!". Where did you get the idea to open the wire? (Just curious).
