My floppy drive makes processing noises as if it has a floppy in it when it doesn't. It is rather loud and annoying and happens 3-7 times in a row and then repeats every 3-4 hours. I have tried updating the driver and reinstalling windows to no avail. Why is it doing this, and How do I make it stop? Thanks

I am using Windows 98. My computer is a pentium II. If I leave a floppy in there, it makes the noise still at same rate, but more quietly. Help.

Have you installed a program recently via the floppy drive (sounds as it is trying to keep checking to read to your floopy)
Do you have anything running in your scheduler

If you have MS Office installed turn of FIndFast. If you have any other apps that run in the background check them, too. And clear the recent documents....
