can I plug a wireless router into a standard 10/100 router so that I can add my laptop to the network via a wireless connection?

NO.

You need a wireless access point and a wireless card for the laptop.

what do I need to plug the wireless access point into?

If I take the laptop back and forth from home to work, can the same card in the laptop figure out to switch from one network to the other?

You need a cat-5 patch cbale to attach the access point to the router. Unless you have wireless at work, the card will not work.

If that is the case it would be cheaper to get an electrician to run a cable to a location in the house and use a regular PCMCIA NIC in the laptop. then only a cable is needed....
