I'm using Windows XP Home. Recently, I have noticed that I cannot load Windows Explorer, either by right clicking on Start button and choosing "Explore," or by running "Explorer" from the Run command. The hard disk reads, the hour glass appears momentarily, but Windows Explorer does not load: that is, it does not appear, so that I can see it and use it.

I normally use Servant Salamander instead of Windows Explorer, since it is far more capable for file and directory operations. However, I need to have Windows Explorer working properly since Notmad Explorer is built upon/depends upon Windows Explorer; Notmad Explorer is used to access my hard-disk-based MP3 player, Creative Nomad Jukebox 3.

I have hunted quite a few places for help on this, to no avail. Will be grateful to whoever can solve this irritation. Thanks. ;)

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

I believe XP has the option to do a repair on itself if you load the XP CD and boot with it. You will get a choice of things to do and simply choose repair. If that doesn't get Explorer back, let us know.

Repairing may fix the problem, but if the cause is not found you may be in the same boat.

Running Hijack This (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/), before you try to repair, will help identify whetehr this problem was caused by a malware app.

Also, run Startup list, it is bundled with Hijack This, go to the config button, then Misc Tools. Post both logs. On another board, earlier today, I was able to ID the new Avril Worm from those logs.
