Hello,

I am running Win98SE that has Norton Utilities4 installed on it. Each time I boot the system (after a Normal shutdown), Norton runs scandisk and finds lost clusters. Anyone have an idea why this happens all the time?

Thanks,
B

Try using a copy of Norton Utilities 2000 as this version can deal with Win 98 but youre version cant.

May Help.

Are you opting to save changes etc, what chopices do you get when it finds the errors.

Hey,

It sounds like your harddrive is going bad. Lost clusters on every boot is a pretty good indication of that.

How old is your system, specifically the harddrive? Hang tight and a few others will no doubt have an opinion or three. My opinion is based on previous posts that mimic your problems and the advice I have seen given.

Cheers,

Better to be safe than sorry - just in case she goes all together.

Run Windows scandisk from DOS. When booting hit the <f8> key right after the POST screen (or logo), before the Wondows screen and select option 5 from the menu. At the C prompt type scandisk. If it reports any errors mark them down, how many and what kind, then prodeed with backing up important data......
