I think with most DSL you need PPOE software to establish a connection.

Over here, I had to use EnterNet 300. Didn't like having to run it every time I wanted to use the internet.

The best solution I found to rid the need for PPOE software was a broadband router. Bonus was it was also a firewall, so I could lay off the software firewall as well. Two birds with one stone.

Now I'm connected all the time automatically and I can disconnect when I choose.

What is WinPoet?

I have DSL and I run something called ProDSL to run it, but it doesn't seem to do anything except run the DSL.

Here is the skinny:

Unlike cable, DSL is NOT always on. DSL needs some crappy, buggy software like WINPOET to act as pretend dial-up software to connect to the internet.

WINPOET is a JOKE!

The best thing to do is get a Linksys Router.

click here for choices (http://www.linksys.com/products/group.asp?grid=34&scid=29)

Then:

1) Uninstall WINPOET

2)Turn off the computer

3) Turn off the DSL modem.

4) Attach the ethernet cable from the DSL modem to the WAN port on the router.

5) attach the ethernet cable from the LAN port on the router to the NIC on the computer.

6) Power up the router

7) Power up the DSL modem

8) Poewer up the computer.

9) Load your browser.

10) type in http://192.168.1.1

11) Login

12) On the first page choose PPPoe as the the protocol

13) Enter your DSL login and password.

14) Save the settings.

15) Exit the browser.

16) You're done.

Elapsed time: 15-20 minutes.....
