CD Burner for a Dell

Someone in the family wants a burner added to their older Dell P3 box. My question is - should I be able to buy any brand I want? I had an experience once with their memory being proprietary... Thanks as always!:)

Dells use normal IDE devices. So any one should work.

Keep your eyes peeled for the system requirements stated on the outside of the box.

D'you wanna bet they stick a great big label over the top of them so you cannot find out what they are until after you open the box and read the leaflet enclosed.

Then when you find that your PC is not up to spec and try to return it they tell you that once the box is opened they charge a re-stocking fee.
