are there any side affects to overclocking a p2 266 to 300? Have a dell dimension xps.

"Side effects"? You sure have a talent for understatement! :D
Yes, overclocking has its risks and is more of an art form than a science. A quick run-down of risks - excessive heat, system instability, voltage problems, deletion of CMOS data, and hardware damage. Not to mention the voiding of your Dell warranty, but I'm guessing that might be over by now. :p
Are you willing to take the risks? Maybe you want to spend some more time learning how to overclock? Try www.overclockers.com/ - they can probably point you in the right direction...

Overclocking from 266 to 300 will not do much harm, but ensure to keep the system in a cool, ambient surrounding.
