View Full Version : Computer Lockup After VideoCard Upgrade

Hi
My system is P3 500, 256MB RAM, Abit BH6, Win98SE. I had Voodoo3 2000, and everything worked fine. Recently i switch to Asus AGPV7700Geforce2, im using nvidia denator3 driver. My problem is that now the system lockup for no apparent reason after about 1-2 hours of using. I checked Asus forum and found im not the only one has this kind of problem, but no solution found. Would flash the board BIOS help?? I also checked the IRQ settings, and found my PCI ethenet card and video card shares the same irq 11, also there are 2 "IRQ holder for PCI steering" on irq11. Anyone knows what "IRQ holder for pci steering" is?? By the way, to flash the BIOS, where do you find the file awdflash.exe?? Thanks for all the help.

1. To get the IRQs separated you'll probably have to shuffle the cards around in different slots, the AGP card can't be shuffled so it isthe othe cards that need to be shuffled.

2. The "holder for PCI steering" is a way for Windows to "know" how to assign the IRQs and it is normal to have one for each PnP device...

3. The BIOS update may or may not help, and to get what you need to flash it you go to the ASUS site and download the update from there, it should include the proper version of the flash utility you need. You should check the available updates and see if one addresses the video card problem....

I think that the "PCI steering " means a free Place for a new device in that IRQ, free resouce.

Have you updated your drivers to the newest verion out yet?
