Hi. I am having a problem with Paint Shop Pro 7. I had a system crash last weekend and now I get an error message from PSP when I try to start it saying that a device attached to the system is not functioning. Another error comes up also "The MSVCIRT.DLL file is linked to missing export MSVCRT.DLL:??_U@APAXI@Z."
I have removed PSP and rebooted and then reloaded PSP, but the same error still pops up.
So I'm not sure what to do now.
Thanks.

That sounds as if a windows file is missing or corrupt. Which version of Windows are you running? If win98, try running system file checker to verify that all the system files are OK.

I second that. I installed a Corel office program that "ate" no less than 4 system files, and my PSP 6 would no longer open at all. Called Jasc, and Jasc walked me through reinstalling PSP 6..don't think I uninstalled it first. But then he emailed me 2 of the corrupted files, and I got the other two off my husband's 98 puter out of his System folder. The System File Checker is under Tools in the System Info window. Sometimes you can restore files through SFC by inserting your OS CD, or in my case, I just replaced the files in the Windows System folder.

And there are sites online that have some dll files. You need to be careful to match "versions", though. Like this one (http://dll.yaroslavl.ru/index.php3?in_char=M). If that doesn't work (finding corrupted files and replacing them)..post back, because I remember my "terror" at not being able to access PSP!

Edit: Should have gone to Google first! Here you go... fix for msvcrt problem (http://www.beatmode.com/articles/reaktor-msvcrt-problem.html)

Thank you both very much. I am running Windows 98 and had a major crash last weekend, as I mentioned. Windows was reloaded by a local computer shop. But now I am getting all these goofy error messages. And some apps needed to be reloaded. However, at least it gave me a chance to back up everything; I know I'm going to need to reload Windows after a fdisk and format very soon, as things are going. I'm trying to avoid that.
I'm also thinking about switch to Windows 2000 Pro.
BTW, I thought of a Google search a bit after I posted here. I guess my first instinct is to ask real people.
Thanks again.

Not sure where you would post it, but I am intensely curious as to how you do with 2000. Maybe you could email me..if you want? Almost everything I do on the puter is with PSP..and I don't particularly want to go to XP, but am rather yearning for the bigger resource pool that one can get with 2000 also..and just get a bit "newer" for support purposes. I suspect that some feel similar because have seen more 2000 questions on the forum recently.
