Mysterious NIC configuration fails [Archive] - The PC Guide Discussion Forums

Anyone know why a NIC, (Kingston KNE110tx 10-100), would just all of a sudden quit auto sensing connection speed and go back to a manual 10base speed only? I was playing with a new router, the NIC worked fine for several days.

I wanted to test a "fresh" load of XP and during setup discovered the card just would not connect. NO "auto-sense", so no DHCP etc. Had to go into the NIC settings and set to 10base.

Ever see a NIC just "quit" auto-sensing connection speed ????

Windows XP has some issues with all types of NIC configurations. This is based on personal observation, nothing in print that I've seen...

When I was setting up my wireless network I didn't initially use WEP to simplify troubleshooting, but XP constantly checked the WEP box when I wasn't looking...

I had another, wired NIC that finally required a fresh install of XP for the configs to "stay" after reboot, so I would say your problem is not too strange...
