It could be either memory or the motherboard. I would..
Try switching memory sticks.
Open the case and if you have some of that "caned" air try a little house cleaning.
Make sure that all the cards are firmly seated in their slots.
Make sure the motherboard isn't touching the side of the case.
Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Don't know if it has been bounced around a lot - possible loose connections. Something else - your power supply maybe going. Check to see first if the fan in the power supply is spinning. Is the fan in your power supply filled with dust and g-d knows what else? The symptoms you described can easily be attributed to a bad power supply among other things...
If it originally was a pentium 2 300mhz (meaning it hasn't been upgraded), it's date of manufacture is probably around the spring of 1998. 3 years is more than enough time for a power supply to fail.

I agree that it could be power related. It also could be as simple as the fan on the CPU. If You open the case, look on the motherboard for a small fan on top of the CPU. If the fan is not spinning, you can overheat the CPU and it could reproduce the problems you are having.
