I ran across this offer when looking at some other stuff on Directron:

As much as people hate WinME, this is an awfully good deal for a full copy of Windoze. I ordered a copy with another piece of equipment, so I am not sure what the shipping would be, but the cost up front is $34! It claims to be a daily special, but their daily specials seem to last a while (I don't know when this one started).

Hey Budfred....
Been looking at some of their stuff. They actually have some pretty good deals on a lot of "stuff". :)
Just curious, have you dealt with them before? How are they?
As far as Win ME, it's funny- With the bad wrap WinME always got, I rarely had any problems with it when I used it. In fact, my old laptop that my daughter ran off to college with still has ME on it...(It wont run XP), and is still humming along.
Of course, (much to your dismay :D ), I really like XP Pro and would never go back...But it does look like a pretty good deal none the less!

No thats not a bad deal all you would have to purchase is a 0.19 cent thumb screw to get it for that price.. And I think the biggest problem people have is that they bought a machine with ME on it which is bundled with a bunch of other junk. a full version might run better???
I'm not sure I just never liked it to spastic.. It came with one of my machines and every month was the same re-do you could never keep anything on the system becouse you would loose it by the time you had enough to back up it would go bonkers before you did..Just my opinion
Personally I think it was just a marketing ploy to get you to upgrade to XP.. and after XP you might as well go linux becouse his next windows is going to be a crock of... well you know;)
Directron always has good deals also cyberguy's

HeHe...Concerning his "Next Windows"- Really does make you wonder where this is all headed!
Windows "Windowtrek2010"? "PictureWindows"? :D
But still, Bill's the man! I wish he would buy his own country so I could move there and live happily ever after in "Microsoftland"
HeHe...How'd you like that one Mark!

Said it before, I'll say it again...Windows ME is not bad...no worse than 98...
I started using it about two months before retail release and had fewer problems with it than with 98 and it booted faster...
Of course, at this point I would go with XP unless you have very specific reasons for sticking with a 9x OS (older hardware, drivers, games, etc...)

Hey Jabar,
Your a man after my own heart. May the evil empire rule forever. By the way I always thought ME was pretty good. My son swears by it and won't upgrade.

I dunno, my 2 yo athlon 1100 came w/ME, I had NOTHING but trouble with the os. Eliminating all the bundled background crap, several HDD wipes/reinstalls & running it with a bare minimum of nonsense made only marginal improvement. On this machine anyway it was EXTREMELY unstable. About 6 mos back I added a second hdd w/win2k & have never looked back. Rock solid, can run for DAYS w/no trouble, w/ME I was lucky to go 24 hours. Now have a dual boot, main/new/larger hdd w/2k, original w/ME. Even now, when I go to the ME side for some reason or other, it's troublesome. Can't help wonder why there would be such variation, could some copies just be buggier than others?

If it came as part of a system restore disk, it will tend to require a lot more tweaking to get it working properly. On my HP my main install is Win98SE from a Restore disk. The last time I did a clean install, I first cleaned up that install and then installed my WinME upgrade. I cleaned that up and have had a stable install for about a year or more now. I am getting this copy because I thought the price was too good to pass up and I plan to maintain a multiboot. Starting with a clean install of WinME should be interesting, but I suspect it may even be more stable than what I have now after some tweaking. Of course, I will have Win2KPro as another boot option....
I can't remember if I have ordered from Directron before, but they have decent ratings in resellerratings, so I thought it was worth a try. I also ordered a new controller card and got a decent price on that too.

Heck, you only go around once. I could spend that much easily hitting the bars downtown inside of a couple hours. Even if it's buggy, it beats nothing to show for yourself but a hangover!
Got this case badge just to close the deal...

Budfred,
I'm gonna be putting a 'bug in your ear' until you tell me exactly how you tweak ME to work dependably!
