Hi Gurus,

I'm having a situation here.

I have a system with win 98 running on it. I wanted to update it to win 2k. I got the win 2k CD to do that. But my friend told that it was not a bootable CD. He told me that I would not be able to install win 2k if I format the drive, or it would be quite tedious to do that.

Now all I want is, I start win 98. Upon complete loading of the OS, I insert the Win 2k CD, it prompts a menu.. the 4 options. Is there a way that I can install Win 2k on my drive by removing / uninstalling other windows OS's in that drive. I would not wish to format the drive as it is really time consuming.

System:
P III 128 RAM

Hi,

As far as I know the windows 2000 cd is bootable as long as you have enabled boot from cd rom in the bios. If your computer does not support booting from cd rom, then why not create some boot disks http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;197063

The windows 2000 setup will detect any existing operating systems and prompt you about them. Personally I would use the windows 2000 setup program to format the hard drive, because I have found that installing over top of exisiting operating systems can cause problems.

Read through these to get some more ideas.
