I have been asked by a friend what could be wrong with her printer it is fairly new but think where it is bought can not be returned so she is having the following problem.
When she goes to print both the voice for saying printing and trouble communicating with printer comes on. Sometimes it prints and sometimes it doesn`t.
She has contacted Lexmark and they told her it must be her computer. Needless to say she has uninstalled re installed downloaded and used drivers that came with it all that has been tried and still nothing.
I recently told her to update her drivers for computer did that and still same thing.
She can not purge documents at all.
This is her computer Soyo 5EMA+ 1.0 AMD K6-2 450 BIOS V4.51 pg Phoenix Sound OPL3 SAX Wave Device for voice modem Yamaha opL 3 - sa-wdm Drive
Modem A Open FM 56-P- 56K Memory slots 16mb and 128 mb Chpset via technologies.
It is connected bu USB . It says everything is fine as far as connection goes have checked that someone suggested that maybe she try a new USB card . I am not sure that would help but maybe someone can answer for me thanks

It is win 98 not the SE. So maybe should do the updates for it also I was thinking maybe to reinstall win 98 might help. Or should Just do the updates . Thanks

I would start with the updates and see if that does it.

She downloaded and installed updates and now the printer just keeps saying problem comunicating with printer.
I suggested that she uninstall printer and reinstall printer and than install her drivers that she downloaded .
I had a problem with HP RW took me ages for to get drivers installed finally I re downloaded them and worked fine so sometimes your first download might not work. Just a thought.
I can`t seem to find any upgrades on windows 98 for USB fixes though but i would presume the company would have the right drivers that would be compatable with win 98 would they not?
I am sort of thinking why I am typing.
Anyway any more suggestions would certainly help would a new USB card solve the problem?

I think any updates for Win98 for USB are probably included in general updates for the OS rather than a separate thing. With printer drivers on USB sometimes the order of install makes a difference. Options include:

Remove the driver, plug in the printer, reinstall the driver when Windoze calls for it.

Remove the driver, unplug the printer, install the driver, shut down, plug in the printer and reboot.

I would probably try the first one first and then the second if that doesn't work. I would remove the driver in Safe Mode to make sure it is all gone.

A USB card might solve the problem, especially if it comes with drivers.
