Jiggy,
I seem to have removed that folder on my machine, but I'm not certain exactly how! I can tell you that there is a registry key pointing to it with a blank data field. If you look at HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/ShellFolders, there are keys for all the system folders.
You could try deleting the data value, then deleting the folder, and rebooting to see if the folder stays gone.

Jiggy,

Try clicking Start, then Run and type: regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll Click OK. You should get a window saying it succeeded. Click OK. You can then delete the My Documents folder/sub-folders like My Music, etc.

Hope that helps...:)

Jiggy,

I just did it on XPHome and XPpro. Removed a folder and rebooted. Still gone. Are you sure you typed it in correctly?

hmmm...maybe I could have been clearer. After you run the dll and click OK, you can right click on the start menu, click properties, start menu, customize, advanced and remove the MY Music folder from there. Does that help a little??

Did you do the right click on the start menu, click properties, start menu, customize, advanced and remove the MY Music folder from there?

Well...In both of my XP installs, when I do the "right click on the start menu, click properties, start menu, customize, advanced ", I have a list of shortcuts (including MY Music) displayed on the start menu. I have a choice of "Display as a link", "Display as a menu" or "Don't display this item".

If I check "Don't display this item", it's gone. I wonder why this is not working for you. It works on both of my XP machines. I went to my landlady's machine (XPpro) and it works for her also. I don't know why it wont work for you. :(

EDIT: Maybe in your efforts to get rid of it, you deleted the reference to it without actually getting rid of it.

My Music is one of those special folders, so it might fall under the perview of SFP (system file protection) and as long as it is enabled it may not be possible to get rid of it.....

I got rid of it on two of my computers...

If you just want to move the folder then open two instances of Windows Explorer and drag it from one to the other.

If you want to delete the MyDocuments folder (or any of its special subfolders) then first run regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll from Start>>Run; then reboot.

To restore/repair the MyDocuments folder run regsvr32 /i mydocs.dll then reboot.
