I'm having some trouble with Works--it just doesn't catch spelling errors like 'hse' instead of 'she', 'akthough' instead of 'although' and other obvious mispellings and words stuck together accidentally. Is Works just that bad, is there an update somewhere to correct these shortcomings, or is there something in the program to correct it?

Thanks//Donn

I haven't used Works for a long time, but when I did, it didn't have an automatic spell check. If it does now, you probably have to turn it on. Have you checked your Options or Preferences to see what your settings are?

personally I would uninstall it and reinstall.. but there are a couple things to look at..

1. Search for Mssp2_en.lex - check the size, version and location. Either it got corrupt or was overwritten what will probobly happen is you'll get an error "missing mssp232.dll" if so pop the cd in and repair

2. view the custom.dic file and see if the misspelled words are in there. If they are then they can be deleted and not destroy the other words that are in there.

I echo the above. Have a really old version of Works, and the F7 key (SpellCheck key) is my favorite key..second only to the backspace key..:) Use it every morning now that my internal "spell check" is getting more feeble.

Yoda: Speaking of spelling..did you mean "Yah-ta-hey"?? Navaho for "hello"? I have the whole Hillerman series, and have been meaning to ask. Just did a Google on it, and it seems to be a place name too.

Thanks all for your comments, and let me clarify that it does catch some errors and underlines them with the red squiggley lines, but on the same page it will miss other obvious errors.

Mine came as as OEM so I don't have a disk for it, and I don't see how to uninstall/install it. Any further thoughts would be welcome, and whichword processor program do you like the best? The system I bought (1 yr 3 mos. ago)came with a Word Perfect (office 2002) disk, which I have never installed. If it's a business application I wonder at it's worth for writing a book--I simply don't know.

BTW if you like Tony Hillerman, have you ever read Carston Stroud? Start with Lizard Skin his first.

Wordperfect would work well in writing a few lines of poetry all the way to the great American (or elsewhere) novel. It will have far more features that Works and should have a great spell checker.

Works and word should be on the same OEM disk it's all made by M$ and there always on the same 4 or 5 OEM disks..(Bundled software) The option for remaoval should be in add/remove prog. if not just go ahead and look at your disks and install anything that looks like Office apps.

I did the search and got 'no results'. However I accidentally typed Mssp,2_en.lex (comma after 'p') and got a mssp3ena.lex, and mssp3en.lex, but I couldn't open them.

As mentioned above I don't have a disc. . . all ideas gratefull received.

If you have Word or Wordperfect either one, they will work well. If you don't, there is a free office suite called OpenOffice that will also do well and is roughly comparable to the office suites.
