i was told by a relative that the pics (jpgs, bmp etc) that we download from websites have a digital signature in them... not all pics, but few pics which are exclusive to a particular website.
for ex- if i download a pic which is digitally signed, then how do i know that its digitally signed ? also, if i upload the same on my/other site, then is it considered illegal ?
i was also told, that these websites run a random chk and u can get caught if they find their digital-signature in a pic hosted elsewhere ?

Interesting digital sig hmmm The person that put it in there I would imagin has also incypted it into the pic I seen this on Tech TV not to long ago now if i could find it on there site.
As far as copy right?? I posted a couple of links here and they are exactly the same and neither one gives credit to who ever made it in the first place..

really I wouldn't think they could do much to you as long as your not using signed art and claiming it was yours?? if they don't put a block on the pic as to where you can't D/L it to your machine I would think it is fair game??? or they have a name across it and you blocked it out People use pictures everyday not belonging to them even the new's or schools etc...
You could go as far as making a PC Case exactly like one you see already made change one millimeter of it's size and sell as your own, no copyright infringement. look at Antec and Aleinware real close match on some of there case'e desighn wise..

Interesting.
Try a google search on "steganography". More information than you can shake a stick at!:D
Quite why one should wish to shake a stick at something I have never quite understood, but still........
I think that there is a plug-in for Photoshop that will embed digital signatures in pics, but how many people use it I have no idea.

Yoda, thx for the link. now the picture is a bit more clear. i digged into my email account and found few old mailz concerning the same prb. these were my questions and their answers....
my query: are all wallpapers on the site your property... i mean do u
mind if i put them on my site (which is yet 2b uploaded)
they replied: We do not mind you putting wallpapers on your site if you do not remove our label. Kindly let us know the name of your site also.
my counter query :D: and what if i remove the label(ofcourse if its legal), because there r zillions of sites which share the same photos as of yours and vice-versa_with their own labels
their reply: If you put wallpapers of others sites then be prepared to fight legal battels. We are already fighting 12 such cases in the court.
Its right that many sites do not bother about you copying their images but some sites are very particular about it and take strict actions.
It actually depends from company to company. Some companies have gone to the extent of using softwares to catch these types of culprits.
Even we do not allow any site to use our content without our consent.
after this i was told by my cousin about that digital signature stuff. but all these things happened a yr ago ... and everything just went outta my mind (havent even strted work on my site ! :P )
so if put say their wallpaper WITHOUT their label, and instead provide a link to the site on my webpage, just below the 'dwnload wallpeper' button, then is it considered legal ?
ofcourse, they will never come to know even if i remove their label and dont give them credit at all, but that wouldnt be something i would like to do... and leme tell you there are hundreds of sites which provide the same wallpapers each with their own label
and hey yoda, did you receive any replies to the emails you darted off to those two 'xeroxed' sites ??? :D

No neither one of them have responded as to who ownes the rights or if it were free range...So maybe it's alright if the big dogs do it, but not ok if us little dogs do?:D
To tell you the truth for you and where your located at, It would cost more for the people to go after you than it is actually worth.Let alone an american site trying to prosecute you in another country the cost would be unbearable for them let alone if they could find a lawyer in your country to even take the case.Lawyers here cannot even practice in another state unless there licensed in that state let alone in another country..NOT saying to do anything illegal here.. but you know what I mean.
