I am currently using MS office 97 Pro.Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the "office assistant" that pops up everytime I start word? I would also like to turn off the user group box that pops up with the name and initials of the user when I open an application'
Thanks,

You can turn off the Office Assistant in Tools, Options if I remember correctly. I am not sure what the other thing you are talking about is, but it can probably be turned off in Options too.

You really truly want to do in the @#$%!@# paper clip?

Put him where he'll be pushing up daisies?

For the identificiation box, if you fill in your name and initials and click OK it should not come back again next time.

Alternative method.

Add/Remove Programs "Office97" and then choose Add/Remove from the options after inserting the install CD.

Highlight "Office Tools" and click "Change Option". Uncheck Office Assistant and OK your way out.

For the future: if you are clean installing Office then use the customise option and ensure this checkbox is unchecked.

Thanks all, I think I've taken that annoying little guy out of the picture for good. The work group box has also been eliminated.
As always, your responses were most appreciated.
