Can't recognize my video camera

I put in a pinnqacle studio v. 8 card with fire wire and I can't get it to recognize the my digital videocamera that is plugged in. The computer sees the card as a network card. I know this should be easy, and that's why it's driving me crazy. WORK DARN YOU! (Can we say the other word?)

What version of Windows, other devices, etc...

my bad, Win XP is my OS, Pinnacle studio version 8 is the software, I'm using the card that comes with it for firewire, my camera is a Canon Elura with a DV tape. To save time, my computer meets all requirements to run the software. And don't laugh, but I bought a gateway instead of building a computer.

Are you running the XP specific drivers for the Pinnacle card?

The fact that it appears as a network card leads me to beleive it is a driver problem....(for some strange reason, XP seems to see a bunch of differnt kinds of cards/devices as network devices).
