I have an HP LaserJet 1200 (USB) printer with PS driver installed. It is able to print text and PDF document fine, except for ONE PDF file. This file has multiple pictures and is 6 pages and about 300K. Whenever I try to print this document, it would print the first 3 pages and stop (printer light still blinking but nothing comes out, I have to turn off/on the printer to get it printing again). The 4th page has some pictures on it similar to the 3rd page. I don't see anything special about the 4th page that causes the printer to choke. The 5th and 6th pages prints fine. My point is that there is something wrong with page 4 that the printer doesn't like. I've tried printing only the 4th page, doesn't work. However, this document prints FINE on other printers on the network (different models). I've made sure the latest driver is installed. Is there anything I can do to fix this "corrupted" document?. I've ruled out the possibility of a network problem by plugging the printer directly to a PC. Is there a history of incompatibility between PDF files and HP printers?

In my experience, there is no major incompatibility between HP printers and PDF files. have printed 140Mb PDFs on my deskjet1220 with no problems.

However, you said in your post you were using the PS drivers.I assume you mean the postscript drivers. Have you tried with standard HP windows drivers?

What version of acrobat are you using? I think there were some minor incompatibilities in version 5.00, and an upgrade to 5.0.5 might help.

If you do not have the Adobe Acrobat program to try editing the problem page with, you can download a free PDF editor from PDF995 (http://www.pdf995.com/) and give that a try.

I have just experienced a similar problem.

My setup is a home build machine which has two USB (ver 1) ports on the motherboard and 5 USB (ver 1) ports incorporated into the LG Monitor. I recently started using all 7 ports - note though that one motherboard and one hub port are used to effect the link between MB and monitor - and my HP deskjet 970 CXi started having print errors. The system would set up the doc to print and then just stop. On re-booting part of the doc might be printed. I tried re-installing the software and then installed the latest driver. (My OS is WinXP Home). That allowed one doc to print each time before the problem returned.

I then tried the printer troubleshooter in Windows but that suggested solutions I had already tried and which proved ineffective. I finally appear to found the cause when I used the USB troubleshooter, which suggested that my systems USB capability was overloaded. I removed the USB cable which connects my desktop and laptop and the printer printed without problems.

My desktop has 450 MHz Intell PIII and the 7 USB ports are attempting to support

1> Laplink PC to PC link - not currently connected to Laptop due to different problem, but still connected at desktop
2> Motherboard to monitor hub link
3> Hub to motherboard link
4> HP Deskjet 970
5> Epson 2450 Scanner
6> PC-Linq PC to PC link - this is the one I disconnected from the desktop to fix printer
7> Broadband cable modem

I think therefore, that although the theory of USB means that you can daisy chain a max of 127 devices this number falls dramatically in direct relationship to bandwidth required by the various, competing devices.

Could someone more knwledgeable please comment?

Cheers,

Mike
