First i'd like to say hello, as i am new to these boards.

I was wondering how much power you guys think this system might need and any reccomendations as to which brand to get it from.

Epox 8rda
AMD 1800+
256 mb crucial
geforce 4 ti4200 128 mb
floppy, cd-burner, dvd, 40 gig maxtor
Seven 80 mm fans, one 120 mm fan!, 60 mm cpu fan

I modded the case a bit to allow several new fans and i doubt my old 300 watt can take it. Id also like a little room to grow, enough to handle a mildly oc'd Barton and 512 total ram. I really dont know much about power supplies.

thanks in advance.

I am pretty sure AMD reccomends a 300w PS. They even have reccomended manufacture's. Check out their wedside. www.amd.com A wealth of info.

Sorry, I didn't read your whole post. 9 fans. Whoa!
Bet ya really got to crank up the volume!
I too will be interested to see what people here say.
This is a great forum, except when people like me have too many beers and prematurely reply.
I'm building a similar system, why didn't you get the Epox 8RDA+?

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

This is a good article about selecting power supplies:

Here is a link with general info about power requirements:

and here is a thread that describes power needs for different components:

Thanks guys, that was very helpful.

From the info on the previous thread, my current 350 watt HEC psu should be able to handle the load. As to Jim T's question about the Epox 8rda+, I forgot to mention the SB Audigy that Im using. I didnt need the added sound, firewire, or LAN.

Thanks again

With that amount of hardware and keeping in mind

the GF4 is power hungry.... try to find something

in the 450-480 Watt range if you can. Something

that is strong in the +12V.. +5V.. and +3.3V legs.

This will allow you some headroom in the PSU area.

With systems similiar to yours I am using the

Leadman 500W and a Leadman 600W power supply.

Luck.
