View Full Version : IE5.x install problems

I have been attempting to upgrade IE 5 to 5.5. I have downloaded multiple times the install package from MS site and have also atempted to install from a CD rom containing the upgrade (Turbo Tax 2002). At about 10% of installation, I get the message saying that the software that I'm trying to install does not contain a MS digital signature. The options are OK or More info. The later only states what a digital signature is about. The former cancels the installation indicating that I must restart the installation. I reboot, re-start and I get the same results. I reboot, install from the begining and nada.

I have consulted/searched MS's KB with no luck. (As an aside, I get the same results installing IE 6.x. But now I have read in this forum that perhaps IE 6.x is a Pandora box...). So in a few words: any ideas how I can fix/install IE 5.5?

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

Have you tried uninstalling IE first. If not, I would do that. There is a program called IEradicator that will do this and you can probably find it with a Google search.

After you uninstall (http://www.webattack.com/get/ieradicator.shtml) it, try downloading 5.5 from here (http://helpdesk.uvic.ca/how-to/support/win95/msiexpl.html)

Thanks Fruss and Budfred: However, I'm runing Win2k with service pack 2 installed, and from what I got at the IEradicator site, their software won't work with Win2ksr2. (Is that that same to what I have?? Illuminate me!). I have not tried to install from the download versions that Fruss has provided, though, I have to wait untill I have access to wider bandwith tomorrow.

In the mean time, any other ideas?
