I just plucked an AMD K5-PR200 from a warm memory testing machine, (YES a K5.. NOT a K6) and was curious if anyone knew how many of these critters they released. 75 hours of web searching has repeatedly tried to convince me that this processor was "never released" Clues anyone??? -kenny-

Hi BeepBeep, On behalf of the Forum, Welcome

Check out the section on fifth generation processors on this site and in particular HERE (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/cpu/fam/g5.htm).

Hope this helps

Welcome BeepBeep http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I did some quick looking myself and I can see quite a few of the vendor references pertaining to the compatibility of the that processor with motherboards and even offering the voltage & FSB specs. But when you look for the thing to have and to hold...ain't found that yet.

AMD's site doesn't make mention of it either in the "older" products archive.

Sounds to me like you got your hands on an escapee http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks mucho guys.... I sent a detailed message to AMD, and a week later, all the reply contained was "I believe that was a late 1996 early 97 unit. probably few were released" LOOOOOOTTTSA HELP!... I did recieve an interesting tid-bit from a network guru who, and, after seeing the pic i sent him, said it was a "engineering sample" (ES). I'm thinkin' not because every AMD ES i own has "ES" printed on it somewhere (Intel does the same), and all were acquired in anti-static container - not plugged-in a MB. Thank again guys. -kenny-
