I recently got an athlon 1.4, and a tyan motherboard. I put everything in the case set all the jumpers as specified by the motherboard manual, connected the power switch to the jumper, and plugged the power supply into the motherboard. Then plugged the power supply into the wall. When I tried to turn it on I got nothing. Can any one help me out, is there a something I missed, does it sound like a bad motherboard or power supply?

First - check that the "Fuse" (don't know where you stay - but in the UK seperate fuse in plug)
Second - Is the switch on the back of the case (ATX ?) turned on?
Third - Are the cables connected in the correct place inside? (Power sitch button to correct pins on the board)
Fourth - Connecter from PSU to board, Take of and re-seat.
hope it is one of these easy ones http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

0.K. ---- Let's back up a little. It's hard to "read" between the lines on your post. We need a few details. What was that unit used for/doing before you changed the CPU and Mboard? I take it you had a functional system and performed an upgrade. Upgrade complete, now the moment of truth.... Hit the power on switch.... Nada zilch zero. No bells and whistles. No fans spinning. No blinking light on the monitor. No joy. Sit down--Take a deep-- breath and go over everything you did to this point. Begin with the obvious and work back. Check the wall outlet. Is the PSU fan spinning when you power up? Flip that PSU switch a few times on the back of the case. Does the fan on the heatsink spin? Is the switch connector backwards on the jumper? Is it on the pins correctly? Disconnect the power cord and see if there is any reason the Mboard may be shorting to the case or mounting tray. Is the selector on the back of the case set at 110V. Run a few of these and get back to us. All is not Lost.

......Indecision may or may not be my problem......

In the UK all plugs have a fuse inserted into them (the plug that goes into the wall socket)These some times blow for no real apparent reason.

Nope this is a new system mostly, I took a DVD drive and video card from an old system but everything else is new. There is no switch on the PSU, ive removed the motherboard from the case (to rule out grounding out) and tried to power up that way. No luck with anything. At this point I think Ive got a bad motherboard, I know its not the PSU we connected the case to another motherboard and it powered up fine. If anyone has any ideas they would be appreciated but I think Im just going to assume its a bad motherboard, back to Fry's to wait for an hour just to return it. Thanks to everyone that tried to help.

Okie-Dokie guys. Please don't hit the reply/with quote button. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and in blue letters click on Post Reply. That way the thread doesn't get to be a gazillion kilometer's long. ......So you are off to Fry's at a high rate of speed. When you go back together try this. Take a piece of that foam that comes in the Mboard box and place it behind the Mboard when you mount it in the case. Make sure you use the red fiber washers on the mounting screws. An ATX style Mboard will have (6) mounting screws. Use 'em all. No power switch on the rear of the PSU? Must be an AT style..If so then how you plugging in the Mboard? I realize I haven't seen all the latest PSU's. Drive on. Get back with all of your results. And check the RAM!
