No response from computer!

I just put together my new computer. It powers up fine but nothing happens. I dont get any beeps, nothing messages go onto the screen. The first time I turned it on it beeped but it doesnt anymore. I looked at my cpu(athlon) and found that some thermal compound got on the ceramic part,and a little bit got on one of the gold parts on top. So now Im wondering if that has anything to do with why nothing happens. And I have double checked all connections. My speaker is plugged in, video card is seated properly, floppy drive is connected and powered, same with hard drive. Pleas Help!

Make sure the CPU is in the slot properly. Also check your memory if they are inserted properly. Locate the jumper to clear motherboard CMOS and try to boot.
